And so I decided that perhaps a 2nd Enlightenment lecture series maybe the next best step to start to create space for the movement. I thought that it “belonged“ to the University of Edinburgh because the First Enlightenment movement had such an initiation in this university.
Interestingly enough, I had a number of different meetings with different people on campus and this idea never seemed to find any footing, despite people being very keen about the initiative.
Upon reflection, I realised why it never found its footing there. An enlightenment does not “belong“ to any one or any single institution.
An enlightenment movement belongs in an open space, where we can all contribute to it, collectively in a transparent way.
I strongly believed though that the 2nd Enlightenment movement had its place. It just required me to stay open to where it wanted to find its place to be sown and grow.
